Damn!  Have I been that girl?  Of course I have, and so have many of the women I know.  I would be willing to bet that all women have, at least once.  What girl has not been the one saving up all her love coins for the jackpot that we THINK is the him that all BUT committs!  Seemingly it is all there; Chemistry, you go out, you meet everyone, you're seemingly the apple of his eye, he's investing time, affection, pillow talk, the works, it varies from situation to situation (I've lived this, my girlfriends have all at some point complained of this), EXCEPT when the topic of monogamy arises.  He's always not ready or unavailable for whatever reason.  Maybe it's distance (rolls eyes), or he's afraid of being hurt again (the okie doke), focusing on his career, can't provide for you the way he'd like to at the moment, blah blah blah...no need to proceed because we know the excuses proceed for miles!!  However, no matter what, WE, ol' loyal, find every reason in the book to be his ol' reliable...actually loving him and being committed to him while in actuality he is only NOT wifing you because he is waiting for whomever it is he actually wants and is actively seeking her while you love all over him or pitifully wait for the opportunity to. Yea, like Wendy Williams says, he is our boyfriend "in our heads", but you are only his "buddy" appropiate for every position but his ONE, his boo thing, his girl!  Crazy we find ourselves "in love" (the completely false version) with him and have never met his mama, the relationship talk is foreign territory, and despite our unconditional loyalty the reality is it is mostly physical, for the time being, or not what he wants at all.

With all of that said...WHY is it that we women continue to make excuses to rationalize our very illogical choices to stay in his corner??  Because like the quote above is saying...it's all for the title, the championship ring, the fantasy (picket fence, family portraits, kids, dog, and family vacays).  Don't get me wrong, he may want that BUT not with you... BUT yet you think  IF you could just get him to this or that, or if YOU could just DO this or that, say this or that...you'll be his top shelf choice.  How many times has that formula failed???  It always does!  I'ts sickening...what makes him so worthy/!?!?  And it's even more horrible when you recognize the crazy pattern in your own life in different degrees at different times but you notice it, it's there  Yea, I'm kinda guilty as I type this and have been in my past- hence the use of the word WE throughout the post, but in my Patti voice "its a newww day!!"

I'm Rich BITCH!

LMAO...okay so because of all the loose ends from last season, I was looking forward to the premier of the Real Housewives of Atlanta especially to see what was going on with NeNe...Ms. Drama herself!  Sure enough NeNe is bringing the drama already in episode ONE!!  LMAO at this argument between NeNe and Sheree...NeNe has gotten herself some very new SUPPOSEDLY very long money and felt the need to let Sheree know when confronted by Sheree about a failed business venture screaming at Sheree "I'm rich bitch".  She then went on to say how much her veneers cost, how Celebrity Apprentice put her on financially and that she is RICH and doesn't need to side swipe the likes of Sheree for business.  THIS WAS JUST A MESS!!!  I pause at believing that Celebrity Apprentice has put NeNe on the status of rich, but Donald Trump can now expect an influx of celebrities to be calling him to get on Celebrity Apprentice because it seems like every episode NeNe is going to be talking about her new found RICHNESS from Celebrity Apprentice.  Safe to say she is feeling herself!  Loved the argument!  So juvenile, messy, yet ENTERTAINING!

Regal, Powerful, Feminine...African American Woman CEOs*

As a budding entrepreneur, thanks to the many projects I have going on right now, I love giving props to my fellow young black women making power moves and establishing powerful relationships.  I'm excited for African Americans as a whole for the presence we are making in the business world!!  HOWEVER, THIS POST is all about the ladies...those black women running corporations, signing checks, and calling shots!!  I WANT TO BE LIKE THEM!!

This is Ursula Burns.  She is the FIRST black, female CEO of a Fortune 500 company!  She is running Xerox!!  Hailing from New York like most people everywhere, she started at the bottom as an intern in the 80s!! 

Sheila Johnson!  If you watch BET then you should know who she is..the ex-wife of former BET owner Robert "Bob" Johnson.  Anywho, Sheila has her own accolades to be proud of she is the Owner, President of, and governor of the WNBA's Washington Mystics 2.) has a stake of ownership also in the Washington Wizards and Capitals, 3.) and is the CEO of Salamander Hospitality, a company that runs a slew of resorts across the Southeastern part of the country!

Cathy Hughes!! She is the owner of both Radio One and TV One!  If you're from the DMV, you listen to a few of her stations all the time and who doesn't love "Unsung" on TV One every Monday night...Cathy Hughes is a media force! 

Inspired....

I find inspiration sometimes is in the weirdest areas. However, nothing inspires me more than another young, Black woman doing well for herself. I love to support my fellow young ladies because 1.) there is a lack of unity among us, and 2.) it really does light a fire under me to 86 procastination and DO SOMETHING worthy, that makes me happy, and feels a void and make others happy. Now more than ever, because I am expecting, I have been motivated to sort of "'do my own thing". I always said I wanted to be a stay at home mother, but my pregnancy was a surprise, and I am not quite at the point where I can hand in my resignation letter and do that yet. You better believe the confirmation of my conception put me on the fast track to establishing the companies I have always dreamed of establishing, putting in place financial matters for the future of my unborn, and just really putting the presses on myself to get things done. Anywho, in my post yesterday I mentioned Keyshia Dior's (the video model) lipstick line. I love this girl's hustle!! She released a video yesterday, mini documentary, about her rise to success and it inspired me all the more....you can find the video on her website at www.keyshiadior.com but here it is below

Hey yall!!! Funny my url is opinionofaglamchik.blogspot and I have not offered an opinion on anything even remotely glam or unglam lately. Forgive me! If you follow my other blog, then you know I am JUST starting to get my energy back, I just updated that one and figured since I'm logged in I will update this one by letting you all in on some new and not so new faves of mine....leggooooooooo

Well, I have become the self proclaimed youtube junkie this summer for all things girly, prissy, and glam!! I have found two new favorite youtubers, and I think they are friends, but their videos are awesome!! The first one is AllThingsFabulous101 and the other is SongbirdDiva4life...they both hail from up north, New York to be exact and have the best reviews on everything from hair, makeup, clothes, wardrobe necessities, giveaways...the works*** I have to say my favorite of the two is Miss Asia of All things fabulous 101 though; her reviews are among the most thorough on "the tube" lol!

Some other new favorites of mine are; NYX makeup products (cheap & great quality). I found out about NYX through All Things Fabulous' videos. I may be late with that one, but I love the quality and they are so economical. Further, in my quest to STOP paying MAC cosmetics $30 a pop for foundation, I have found a drugstore substitute that I probably love more...the Maybeline Fit Me Foundation. I swear by it these days! Also, ummm I have not tried her lipsticks yet, but I am so fascinated by the Keyshia Dior lipstick line because I'm a colour whore and her line has NO shortage of pigments...

FOR COLORED GIRLS....my opinion

I'm not sure which of you went to see the long anticipated film this past weekend but I certainly made an event of it with my baby sister, mother, auntie (whose expecting her first...YAY!!), and my grandmother after dinner at Maggianos!

I was excited to see the film but the movie disappointed me :( a great deal, sadly.

Reason being, and please don't shoot me loyal Tyler Perryans...i'm one too. I didn't think the film accurately captured the essence of the delight and plight that being a "colored" woman exudes.

GRANT IT, I did not read the book nor have I seen the play although the film does have me anxious to get my paws on them both. I felt the film captured the common struggles of women across all income, and racial lines. With the exception, of Janet's character, I don't think any issues that were unique to "colored" women, black women were depicted. ALL sexually active teen girls risk facing the scary reality of an unplanned pregnancy, lots of wives/women of crazed veterens/addicts are abused, many women are sex and attention deprived, etc. Instead I feel that if a colored woman's story was to be told, then it should have captured; how our men can't get jobs because they're black NOT veteren and alcoholic, in fact, some have not a thing wrong with them. It could have focused more on how our women are up against this still newly discovered culture of the "down low" brother because of our community's homophobia and our men's fear of being found out or labeled a sissy if they are with other men, it could have captured the absense of the effects of a successful father figure in the house of our many single mother households and those households that are thriving against the odds for lack of resources, education and the abundance of poverty in our community, our overly sexualized public personas that say nothing about our strength, legacy, and journey, etc.

I simply thought the movie did a great job of depicting issues relateable BY ALL women NOT just "colored" women. While that's not a bad thing but a great thing...the movie was for COLORED girls and we do really have our own set of issues that are purely unique to US!!!!!

MOST IMPORTANTLY, it could have captured how much WE SIMPLY ROCK!!!!!!

The Conversation...

we've all had it with friends, family, and people we're dating. You know, the conversation about dating and relationships...I find it particularly interesting to have those kinds of conversations with a male than female, because it's likely she's thinking what i'm already thinking and its funny to hear how men think of women, in relationships. Yesterday I finished reading Hill Harper's book...The Conversation (two years too late) but hey, late is always better than never!!!! My female followers have GOT to go pick up this book if you haven't already!!! Hill (successful actor, author, and Harvard Law grad) covers this "conversation" about how Black men and women can build loving, trusting relationships, like NOONE else!!

He talks about it all, his own relationship fears, what he thinks, and what I liked most is he got the men to open up (ALL THE WAY UP) about how they felt about their female counterparts, Black women...and ladies you know we definitely put in our two cents throughout this book....This book is honest, captivating, and so much more!! Anyone, especially anyone Black that is interested in changing their mindset about Black love or just hearing the ideas of others about why we, as people, do what we do and dont do...needs to pickup this book!!

From money, marriage, exes, kids, cheating, to relationships, looks at self, faith, health, sex and STDs, this book went IN!!!!

This book made me wish I was in a book club full of 20-something black men and women, having passionate debates at busboys about this ish....GO GET IT!!!! THEN LETS BLOG/TALK ABOUT IT!!

I LOVE BLACK MEN!!! This book helped completely understand me in the eyes of them! and made me love them and understand them even more!!!

An Icon transitions....

My readers know that I am all about female empowerment and uplifting my fellow Black woman. With that, today the world mourns the death of a female pioneer, civil rights activst, and sorority sister of Delta Sigma Theta sorors everywhere....Dr. Dorothy Height. Dr. Height, former President of the National Counsil of Negro Women, has passed away at the age of 98 of natural causes.

Dr. Height is deserving of this post because (I've always dreamed of meeting her) she chose to live a life of service, fighting for equal rights for her fellow man and woman...especially Black men and women. It is because of women like Dr. Dorothy Height, that I, a young black woman, can vote, work in any position that a man can, and attend any university I choose. Of course with the exception of those established all male institutions like the historic Morehouse University.


Last year, the first bill that President Obama signed was a bill by the name of the Lily Ledbetter Act. That act made it mandatory for women to be treated equally in a place of employment and that they be paid equally and as fairly as their male counterparts. Such an act was only possible after decades of work and struggles from women such as Dr. Height. So as women that are either seeking new employment, going off to our jobs, sending our children off to daycare this morning, casting votes in national elections for individuals that would further fight on our behalf and enact acts such as the Lily Ledbetter Act....let us NOT forget about the service, life, and accomplishments of Dr. Dorothy Height.


Dr. Height has also been the recipient of the two highest awards available to a civilian in the United States of America; The Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal.

THANK YOU Dr. Height!!!! We are forever grateful!!!

40+ & FAB!!!! (Black Pride Moment, Sorry?)

As of lately i've been on this self improvement, beauty, health, fitness, positive attitude kick and anyone who knows me, knows that I pride myself on my African American heritage....LOVE being a Black Woman!!!! While browsing the net I came across a few pictures of some nubian (LOL) women that show us better than anything else that Black DOES NOT crack!!!

At 22 I can only hope I have a fraction of these ladies' beauty, sex appeal, poise, and grace when i'm 40+!!!!! I should have done this post when I was doing my Black Women in History posts in February & March. Nevertheless, it's here now. I'm posting this now because I believe my fellow African Americans are the sexiest, baddest people on this Earth...we bring the flavor, humor, fun, spice, mystery, strength, sugar, and EVERYTHING NICE!!! Kudos to us eh? and these BEAUTIFUL WOMEN rockin' 40+ like only WE can!!!! Of course there are more women than just the three shown here.....

Ursula Burns...BLACK WOMEN IN HISTORY**

You may have seen her gracing the cover of a few popular magazines recently and she's on the cover of the current Black Enterprise Magazine....Ursula Burns. She is the FIRST, in 2010, the FIRST African American woman to be named Chief Executive Officer of a Fortune 500 company, Xerox.

Ursula Burns' story is one of a hardworking woman who started from the bottom and worked her way up through perserverance and determination. Burns' has had a long tenure at the Xerox Corporation. She started as a Mechanical Engineer intern in 1980, worked for the company after graduation and over the years, has steadily climbed the ladder toward her current position as the first African American Woman to lead a major United States Corporation.

According to the dailyvoice.com, Burns' has quite the background as well. She is "a graduate of Polytechnic Institute of NYU, holds a master of science degree in mechanical engineering from Columbia University. She serves on several professional and community boards, including American Express, The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University, MIT, the U.S. Olympic Committee and the University of Rochester.

More than a corporate "Big Wig" Ursula Burns is also a mom. She has one son and one daughter.
