What were they thinking....

The BLACK ENTERTAINMENT TELEVISION AWARDS had the opportunity to uplift and celebrate the life of the GREATEST entertainer to ever live, a BLACK man and managed to totally flop!!!! IN MY OPINIION, the show was a total disgrace with very FEW highlights! Michael Jackson gave so much of himself to the world up until he took his last breath and then his own people, in a pitiful attempt, to pay tribute to him, manage to do nothing but make a mockery of the situation. There were a few highlights of the show that awarded and recognized real artists like BEYONCE, her hubby JayZ, Wyclef Jean, and Alicia Keys. New Edition did a good job performing although they should NOT have opened the show...but it was nice to see them all on stage together.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to the OJays (and not to discredit the OJays) but in all actuality the night should have been a total and COMPLETE tribute to Michael Joseph Jackson! My heart went out to his family more and more as the show progressed and they continuously showed his dad sitting in the audience. However, it was the end of the show that touched me the most when Janet Jackson, a visibly torn and distraught little sister, came out to speak on behalf of her family and her late talented brother. I felt for her because throughout the night there were talented individuals who could have and should have performed Michael's music like; Guy & BBD! There was also the ignorant, ghetto ass attempt by VING RHAMES from Baby Boy to honor the King of Entertaining by saying "Guns is Michael Jackson" WTFreak??? His dad was there and a family is mourning the death of their loved one...have these people, BLACK people NO respect??

As an African American, particularly an African American woman I was disgusted when Drake (one of my fave artists right now) sang his song "I Just Wanna F*** Every Girl in the World" with precious little girls prancing around him....WHAT THE HELL IS THE MESSAGE THERE?!?!?! Both Jamie Foxx & Neyo did do good jobs honoring Michael when they performed his music...a special KUDOS to Neyo!!

CLEARLY EVERYONE WAS INTOXICATED!!! TERRIBLE!! I am sorely disappointed in BET!

JENA 6 Plead NO CONTEST!!

So, the JENA 6, the six young men from Jena, Louisiana that were all charged with Attempted Murder after fighting or beating another white, male schoolmate after he allegedly said a racial slur in 2007, pleaded no contest to lesser charges and ended up with: 7 days unsupervised probation, $500 fine, court costs. However, only five of the six young men were the beneficiaries of this plead deal, Mychal Bell, accused of initiating the fight/beating, has already be sentenced and served 18months behind bars. What I have to ask is how after two years, just two, does one's charges get reduced from ATTEMPTED MURDER and possibly life behind bars to unsupervised probation for a week, $500 fine, and court costs??? It is a mystery as to whether Justin Barker (accused of a racial slur) actually uttered a racial slur at all and if the boys actually reacted the way the prosecution accused them of reacting but what is proven, IN MY OPINION, by the outcome of this case is that the prosecution involved in this case certainly were driven to punish these young men on the basis of race. The guys' plea deal forces one to ask "Well, had they started the case out with the lesser charges, could this all have been over with two years ago?" The answer is YES!! Instead the Prosecution wanting to paint a hateful, violent and racist picture of the six young men that allegedly beat Justin Barker.
I am proud of the African American community for taking a stand for the sake of the Jena 6 when the case became nationally known however, this case proves that while we have an African American President, more prominent African Americans in this country than ever before....WE HAVE YET TO GET TO THE MOUNTAIN TOP THAT DR. KING SPOKE OF IN HIS LAST SPEECH in MEMPHIS!! IT'S TIME FOR US TO MAKE MOVES IN THIS COUNTRY. The once "impossibilities" are becoming achievements all around us....I'm happy for the Jena 6 but sad that race has proven, yet again, to be principal in this country!!!! STILL OVERCOMING....

Real Housewives of D.C...

So, I must admit that one of my guilty pleasures are the Real Housewives series ALL OF THEM; OC, New York, Atlanta, and Jersey...but now I hear that Bravo is bringing Housewives to the capitol!!! I'm all for this! D.C is about all those things that the Housewives from other areas have tried to portray; power, money, image, and prestige!!! I can't wait for this piece of the Housewives puzzle and witness Chocolate City's upper society make a permanent mark in pop culture like only our beloved President Obama has been able to do.....this is Bravo. LOL, I can imagine it now, watching the wives of some of the United States' most powerful individuals show America how those that run this machine call America do it and air their dirty laundry for the world to see.....I CAN'T WAIT!!! I'm anxiously awaiting the 2nd season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta but will am also anxious to see what my beloved hometown Washington, DC has in store for us....wonder will we ever see any D.C Housewives in the White House?? Hmmmm....
