I LOVE MAKEUP!!! Within the last year and a half my love has become borderline OBSESSION!! Soooo, I'm going to become a certified makeup artist!! No longer satisfied with the little looks I come up with playing around, I really want to learn the tricks of the trade, go on to learn airbrushing, and even special effects artistry!! I have fun with makeup and there is So much to learn..not to mention it's an industry all its own!! From the hair industry, to entertainment industry, or everyday precious moments in life like; proms, weddings, photoshoots, etc.. In all of those areas makeup, whether minimal or full face and theatrical becomes necessary!! So of course it will be my new side thing that I can do to make extra cash and HAVE FUN at the same time!!! I have decided to start makeup training in September. The classes will last 6 weeks, 3 nights. So, it'll be over before I get tired of it or feel like I can't handle it with my full time job and being PREGNANT!!! I want to learn now, before my baby comes so that by next Spring, I will have already been trained to do all the cute, colorful summery looks I cannot wait to learn and try on myself let alone other people!! I'm EXCITED*****

"UNITED" States of America...The James Anderson Case

So, I have been trying to make an effort to stay up on National news. In my doing so, I came across the most saddening story about a man, James Anderson. As the doll that can cover it all, I will certainly be offering an opinion about this story. For those of you that are not familiar with the James Anderson story, here is an excerpt about the story from CNN's website:

"Jackson, Mississippi (CNN) -- On a recent Sunday morning just before dawn, two carloads of white teenagers drove to Jackson, Mississippi, on what the county district attorney says was a mission of hate: to find and hurt a black person. In a parking lot on the western side of town they found their victim. James Craig Anderson, a 49-year-old auto plant worker, was standing in a parking lot, near his car. The teens allegedly beat Anderson repeatedly, yelled racial epithets, including "White Power!" according to witnesses. Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith says a group of the teens then climbed into their large Ford F250 green pickup truck, floored the gas, and drove the truck right over Anderson, killing him instantly. "

I can imagine that, like myself, most people have been FLABBERGASTED by this story!! For a young African American woman it's; frustrating, infuriating, astonishing, hurtful, and a REMINDER!!! America refuses to part with her first, truest, longest lasting romance with RACISM!! Racism is ever present and abound...the oppression, discrimination, prejudice against people of color, namely African American people will never be something we REMEMBER. We did not need to know this story to remind us of this fact, just look at the hard time that the President of the Nation is getting and we all know why its that way! Oh and remember the Jena 6 in Jena, Louisiana? Yea, that was less than 10 years ago..forgot about that? I posted about that too!

While, the death of James Anderson and the means by which he died should really not be a surprise to people, it is because of where we are as a country, but honestly it should not be because of the same reason. Mississippi especially, has teetered tottered with it's Jim Crow past since the day of Reconstruction. Doubt me? The state did not adopt the 13th Amendment UNTIL 1995!!!! HOWEVER, with ALL OF THAT, taken into account; the nerve, the gull, the motivation, the will of someone to act the way those teenagers did that night is ASTONISHING, APPALLING, SHOCKING, HATEFUL, MORBID TO say the LEAST!!

I will be glued to the media to see just how the state of Mississippi, who has declared this a racial, hate crime already, will handle this case and the offenders.

They should be made example of in every way possible, National examples.

Let this incident remind us that to know one's history and to progress as a unit and a country is to also take on the responsibility to personally rectify it by any means necessary. It is PRE-Election year, remember the voting rights act was not passed until 1965, schools were not desegregated until 1954, it took 232 years approximately to get our first President of color, the President was just publicly called a "Tar baby", and everyday subtle gestures of racism are among us all. These were not old people that killed James Anderson. They did not burn crosses and sport white robes and masks. These were simply teenagers with evil intentions that had fatal results...in the America we live in NOW! It was not that long ago that the parents, grandparents, and great grandparents of these children hosed down blacks, refused service to blacks, and owned slaves! Like folk tales, and recipes, ideas of racism and evil are passed down through generations. WE, AMERICANS, have to KNOW better to do better for the common good. My prayers are extended to both the family of James Anderson as well as his soul, and the families of those teenagers.

Will Mississippi adequately seek justice?

Will true beauty please stand up?!?!

Yesterday, while catching up on the news, I ended up watching Showbiz Tonight to get my entertainment news fix, and they were talking about this t-shirt. You may not recognize the quote on the shirt, but Supermodel Kate Moss was quoted in 2009 as saying " Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels." We all know the fashion industry is plagued with malnutritioned, unhealthy, skinny women (and men), so for Kate Moss it made sense for her to say that because in her world, the skinnier you are the, the more paychecks you receive. What frustrated me about this shirt is the same thing that would probably frustrate any sane person. In this picture, A CHILD IS WEARING THE QUOTE ON A T-SHIRT!!! Apparently some wise person affiliated with zazzle decided to market the quote on t-shirts in lieu of promoting positive, universal images of beauty. The thinking process behind marketing such a quote is; skinny is better, the skinnier the better, skinny is more important than health, etc. I am an advocate for recognizing someone, especially women, for their true displays of beauty; the kind way they treat someone, the confidence they portray no matter their size, their intellect, and choosing to embrace who they are healthily, despite society's emphasis on the unrealistically, skinny woman being the beautiful one as she hides behind the shame and difficulties of poor self image, eating disorders, psychological disorders....the beauty she is put on display to portray is not what they or their insides feel. It is unhealthy, unsafe, and sometimes deadly! Skinny is not better...healthy, no matter the size of the person is paramount and this quote does not convey that! Women come in all sizes, I, myself am a size 10 and would look foolish in a size 5!

Per news reports, zazzle decided to pull the shirt from the site out of good judgment, if you ask me! Further, I do not think I need to say again that advertising the shirt with a little girl wearing it was in severely poor taste!

I think there is enough in the mainstream that women battle against in respect to beauty, weight, self image!

Inspired....

I find inspiration sometimes is in the weirdest areas. However, nothing inspires me more than another young, Black woman doing well for herself. I love to support my fellow young ladies because 1.) there is a lack of unity among us, and 2.) it really does light a fire under me to 86 procastination and DO SOMETHING worthy, that makes me happy, and feels a void and make others happy. Now more than ever, because I am expecting, I have been motivated to sort of "'do my own thing". I always said I wanted to be a stay at home mother, but my pregnancy was a surprise, and I am not quite at the point where I can hand in my resignation letter and do that yet. You better believe the confirmation of my conception put me on the fast track to establishing the companies I have always dreamed of establishing, putting in place financial matters for the future of my unborn, and just really putting the presses on myself to get things done. Anywho, in my post yesterday I mentioned Keyshia Dior's (the video model) lipstick line. I love this girl's hustle!! She released a video yesterday, mini documentary, about her rise to success and it inspired me all the more....you can find the video on her website at www.keyshiadior.com but here it is below

I think she is great! Loved her story!

I have never worn a wig because normally they repulse me and I don't have Beyonce or Wendy Williams' budget to get one I would actually love. That is until I ran into this short baby the "mommy wig" on youtube! I had to have it! Colouredbeautiful made it look sooo good and it reminded me of a haircut I had in 2008! So I ordered it from hair stop & shop. Yea, Imma rock this soon with a post, my opinion on it, and pictures to boot! Stay tuned!

Some new faves....

Hey yall!!! Funny my url is opinionofaglamchik.blogspot and I have not offered an opinion on anything even remotely glam or unglam lately. Forgive me! If you follow my other blog, then you know I am JUST starting to get my energy back, I just updated that one and figured since I'm logged in I will update this one by letting you all in on some new and not so new faves of mine....leggooooooooo

Well, I have become the self proclaimed youtube junkie this summer for all things girly, prissy, and glam!! I have found two new favorite youtubers, and I think they are friends, but their videos are awesome!! The first one is AllThingsFabulous101 and the other is SongbirdDiva4life...they both hail from up north, New York to be exact and have the best reviews on everything from hair, makeup, clothes, wardrobe necessities, giveaways...the works*** I have to say my favorite of the two is Miss Asia of All things fabulous 101 though; her reviews are among the most thorough on "the tube" lol!

Some other new favorites of mine are; NYX makeup products (cheap & great quality). I found out about NYX through All Things Fabulous' videos. I may be late with that one, but I love the quality and they are so economical. Further, in my quest to STOP paying MAC cosmetics $30 a pop for foundation, I have found a drugstore substitute that I probably love more...the Maybeline Fit Me Foundation. I swear by it these days! Also, ummm I have not tried her lipsticks yet, but I am so fascinated by the Keyshia Dior lipstick line because I'm a colour whore and her line has NO shortage of pigments...

Some new brands that I am probably going to fall in love with but are not as popular yet, are Endeavor DC a new, local clothing line in the DC area. You can follow Endeavor DC at @ShopNDVR on Twitter and view their designs at http://www.ndvr.bigcartel.com/!! Gotta support the local entrepreneurs.

Also, I have noticed that so many new accessory lines have come out...and last night, I came across one I'd never heard of on the bigcartel website called Rachel Stewart Jewelry. I love er designs...find her at http://www.rachelsteward.bigcartel.com/
