BLOGGERS & READERS!!!

I'M NOT SURE WHICH OF MY FOLLOWERS REGULARLY READ MY POSTS BUT I'M CALLING ALL OF THEM, THE ONES IN THE D.M.V TO JOIN ME IN STARTING A BOOK CLUB!!!!

It's obvious we like reading, I mean we write, we're bloggers. It's also obvious we enjoy readiing/writing some of the same things because we follow each other so why not start a book club? I'm 23, and it's hard to find a book club that is composed of women in their twenties so I want to start one with my blog family. Some of my favorite authors are Hill Harper, Omar Tyree, E. Lynn Harris, and really the list could go on and on across genres. I've thought about this for sometime and would like some feedback.
Is anyone interested????

The Conversation...

we've all had it with friends, family, and people we're dating. You know, the conversation about dating and relationships...I find it particularly interesting to have those kinds of conversations with a male than female, because it's likely she's thinking what i'm already thinking and its funny to hear how men think of women, in relationships. Yesterday I finished reading Hill Harper's book...The Conversation (two years too late) but hey, late is always better than never!!!! My female followers have GOT to go pick up this book if you haven't already!!! Hill (successful actor, author, and Harvard Law grad) covers this "conversation" about how Black men and women can build loving, trusting relationships, like NOONE else!!

He talks about it all, his own relationship fears, what he thinks, and what I liked most is he got the men to open up (ALL THE WAY UP) about how they felt about their female counterparts, Black women...and ladies you know we definitely put in our two cents throughout this book....This book is honest, captivating, and so much more!! Anyone, especially anyone Black that is interested in changing their mindset about Black love or just hearing the ideas of others about why we, as people, do what we do and dont do...needs to pickup this book!!

From money, marriage, exes, kids, cheating, to relationships, looks at self, faith, health, sex and STDs, this book went IN!!!!

This book made me wish I was in a book club full of 20-something black men and women, having passionate debates at busboys about this ish....GO GET IT!!!! THEN LETS BLOG/TALK ABOUT IT!!

I LOVE BLACK MEN!!! This book helped completely understand me in the eyes of them! and made me love them and understand them even more!!!

Ever wonder...

if President Obama is really our first Black president??? This morning before I left to battle DC's morning traffic, I was home watching The President's on the History channel and that question popped up in my head and sparked my curiosity. I'm sure we'll never really know the answer. I mean almost everything we view, read, hear as Americans is censored (yes...gotta love those 1st amendment rights...pun intended)!!

Just think about it. The 3rd President of the United States' Thomas Jefferson's affair with beautiful slave Sally Hemming, supposedly resulted in at least one son, named after the president that "passed" as, well, white. He left his mom and siblings to embark upon a life of privilege...the life that his fair skin, fine hair and light eyes afforded him. How do we know this isn't the case for any of our former presidents???

I mean sure Obama has the swagger, tone, skin of an African American man and due to our modern, more sophisticated methods of record keeping, etc...we KNOW he's biracial. However, NOTHING in America is absolutely "pure". The way I see it every race represented in this country has dipped in the other's butter at some point in time....& Barack Obama is only our first visibly black president! He's certainly not the first. I think it's impossible that he is...

What do you think???!??

I said I would keep you all updated on my journey through this process so there goes. All there is to do now is wait. I did have an informational webinar yesterday that excited me even more!!! I have so much confidence that Georgetown is the best choice for me and hopefully they feel the same about me....

So, keep your fingers crossed for me!!!!! I'm hype but trying not to get my hopes all up. Georgetown is at the top of the list for alot of people***

Bookworm Bloggin...

So, I said in the new year I wanted to get back into reading and so far, so good and I joined a bookclub @ work! I started off the new year reading the work of a familiar author (familiar to me anyway) KiKi Swinson. Her most popular book would probably be WIFEY. I read Wifey back in 2007 and it was good. I managed to stay interested and finish the book. After finishing I heard of the sequal I'm Still Wifey and of course wanted to read it. So my first two books this new year were I'm Still Wifey and Life After Wifey. Both books gave more enthusiasm, drama then the first......all surrounding the main character Kira. LADIES, read WIFEY!!! I'm the only person I know besides an old friend that has read the book but it's worth it, if for nothing else to finish the story with Life After Wifey!!! KiKi served, in Life After, drama, sex, the realness of the streets, deception, love....LOL!!! There were a few times that I found myself so into that book (Life After...) that I was feeling every emotion the characters were feeling; fear, love, lust, arrogance, etc, etc, etc....I love the African American urban novels, and for anyone else who does as well, the Wifey series is a MUST READ!!!!

SO...I'm searching the web while in the middle of this post and discovered "Still Wifey Material" as the fourth book in the Wifey series. Will keep you posted on how I like this one because i'm definitely getting ready to order it......

So I wonder with....

the movie "Precious" experiencing so much success in theaters does that mean a new space will open up for movies based on more African American literature....I love my African American authors and urban novels; Flyy Girl (Omar Tyree's famed novel & MUST read), Coldest Winter Ever, Wifey, etc, etc...When I get one in my hand I can't LITERALLY can't put it down!!

I want to see some of these movies hit the big screen. Maybe, then theyll be more of an outlet for African American actors and actresses. I relate to alot of these books as i'm sure lots of people do and I think it's about time we see some of our stories made into motion pictures. The mainstream's authors like Nicholas Sparks, Jackie Collins have books that hit the big screen with no problem but my hope is that production heavyweights like Tyler Perry in our community will take the lead on these projects.

We haven't seen any projects from the likes of John Singleton, Spike Lee in a while....So what's the holdup Black Hollywood??? Maybe it's funding cause the talent, material is there. I'm hopeful that we will one day see these books become major motion pictures.

I can see the DELICIOUS Lance Gross as Midnight from Coldest Winter Ever, Lauren London as Tracey from Flyy Girl, and with a few more acting classes Beyonce could be Kyra from Wifey!!!!!!! I need some new books too!!!
